  1. What is global warming?

Global warming is one of the main effects of climate change, one of the effects of global warming is that the temperatures of the Earth rise. Many creatures are endangered like the polar bears, their homes are melting slowly and they barely have any ice anymore.

  1. What are greenhouse gases?

Greenhouse gases contain Methane  Nitrous oxide Carbon dioxide and more. Greenhouse gases are caused by normal human activities such as burning your garbage,

  1. How does global warming affect the temperature and weather?

Greenhouse gases make a thick barrier around the earth making when heat goes  inside and normally the heat gets reflected but instead the gases block the heat from going out so it creates a hot temperature .

  1. How do you think global warming causes sea levels to rise?

Global warming causes the sea levels to rise because global warming melts the glaciers and we drink the water in the glaciers because it’s safe. If the glaciers melt their water will get infected by the salt.

  1. What do you think could be the consequences of extreme weather for humans and animals

One consequence that humans will cause to themselves is that the Earth’s temperature will rise immensely, like for example, from the last 12,000 years! The Earth’s temperature rose cup 60 degrees, which is not that much but when you compare it to the hottest temperature ever recorded it is!
  1. How do you think global warming affects the survival of different species and the food chain?

Global warming also effects the waters through pollution which make animals that survive on fish so they will die and more animals will die and Interrupts the food chain

Global Inferencing: Making Connections between the Text and the Wider World

Imagine you are living on a small Pacific Island, and you notice the sea level rising. You have to act quickly in order to save your village from the rising water. What do you do?

You can write a narrative or an explanation to describe what you would do.

I actually have many ideas but the 1st idea that popped into my head was retreating back into the central part of the island and start to make stuff such as rafts,a tree house(I thought of a tree house cause if the water came up faster than I thought I could climb to the tree house and I will be safe from the water).Another idea I thought of was making a wall around the island and than I realised it was a dumb idea cause what if I wanted to get another food source so than I thought of making out posts to not only see the but to fish and just for more protection I will add two more walls behind the 1st wall to and there will be doors that can exit outside into the beach if you dropped something or for any other reasons. We could make a moat around the island so if the water came it would go into the moat and this not only can protect our village from the water but can also protect us from other people trying to attack our island. But my idea that I thought that would actually work is if we made a huge raft that can fit everyone in the village and paddle all the way to the nearest island or country.

Climate Change-The Biggest Challenge

Climate Change – The Biggest Challenge

We have spent the last week learning about Climate Change and the impact that it has on life on Earth. For this week’s writing task we are going to be explaining what Climate Change is, what impact it has, and what we need to do to improve how we look after the environment.

Make sure you have read and understood what Explanatory Writing is, and have made a plan.

Your task is to explain

what Climate Change is, and what impact it has on Earth.

Begin your writing here:Climate change one of the most worst crisis that has happened in history.Let’s start off by talking about what is climate change. In 1896 there was a man named Svante Arrhenius,(By the way this is when climate change was first taken seriously, not when it started) when he predicted that change in the carbon dioxide level will increase the greenhouse effect.Until in 1938 a English steam engineer named  Guy Calendar(Yes Guy Calender is a real person and his full name is Guy Stewart calendar)discovered that Svante’s theory was true. The way he found out was when he connected Carbon dioxide increase,  Earth’s Atmosphere and global warming.

Climate change impacts Earth through global warming. Global warming is the increase in Earth’s temperature caused when heat shines onto earth’s atmosphere and heat will get reflected giving earth a stable temperature. Sadly that’s not what’s happening, what’s actually happening is when greenhouse gases get too packed  into each other making a thick layer which acts like a barrier. This causes the Greenhouse gases to surround earth letting only a bit of heat get out causing lots of heat to stay inside earth’s atmosphere creating a very hot temperature(If you don’t get it basically for example if the barrier(The greenhouse gases)surround the earth and the people(The heat)try to escape through the barrier only some can make it through.

Climate change can not only affect our world but us too because when it’s very hot the heat will start a forest fire.Spreading to even more and more areas,Trees are also a life source for humans because they give out oxygen and boost the humans immune system which is great! Also when heat shines onto the glaciers they melt making the sea levels rise which is a bad thing because not also do we not have much land we will also not have much fresh water because as you should know we get our water from glaciers so when the melted water goes into the sea the water is not drinkable anymore cause in the sea their is salt in the water.

Here are some ways we can slow down and prevent increasing climate change. We can do something as simple as turn off devices if your not using it or turning off the lights if your not in a certain room, all those things can prevent climate, you can also prevent climate change by not driving and ride stuff that dont need gas like riding bikes walking and maybe driving electric cars. These are only a few ways to prevent climate change.Climate change can be stopped in many ways and if we all proceed to do these simple things we can slow down the increase of climate change.

Climate change is very bad for our community and world.Climate change makes a huge difference in our world and our health and we can choose to increase or decrease climate change. It’s your choice.

Mars-Our New Home?-Response to TExt

Mars –

Our New Home?

Think carefully about each question, and use evidence from the texts to support your conclusions. Write your answers in full sentences, and use explanations and examples where needed.

Surface Level: Find the Answer in the Text

  1. What are some similarities between Earth and Mars?

Mars has ice, seasons, weather, volcanoes, polar ice caps and a whole lot more

  1. Humans would find it challenging to live on Mars without what?

Food,shelter,Air,Suits,transportation and alot more.

  1. What are the 3 things that the article says are making our planet Earth unlivable?

Pollution,Climate change and the over use of Natural Materials.

Inference: Use Clues from the Text to Think of an Answer

  1. Explain in your own words why scientists are exploring the possibility of a move to Mars?

I think scientists are exploring the possibilities of a move to mars because if our world become unavailable such as being polluted, global warming, climate change, rises in the sea levels and alot more.

  1. What are some challenges that humans would face if there was a move to Mars?

Some challenges that humans would have to face should be easy but since there’s no gravity it makes every hard such as doing something as simple as walking, eating and even trying to get to mars.I mean Elon musk tried so many times so how can we make it.

  1. Why do you think plants will be so important to the terraforming of Mars?

Plants will be so important to the terraforming of Mars because for example if we need to eat we can eat the plants, and there are some special plants that produce oxygen to but theres a problem,if we try to water the plants the water will just start floating up.

Word Sentence from the text Definition
Enthusiast Imagine a world far away, where red deserts stretch as far as the eye can see. A planet called Mars, located 342 million kilometres away from Earth, has captured the imagination of scientists and space enthusiasts alike. While Earth is our home, we must explore the possibilities of other planets, like Mars, just in case we need to find a new place to live. Let’s take a closer look at Mars and the potential of humans moving there. A person interested in a particular thing
Potential Imagine a world far away, where red deserts stretch as far as the eye can see. Someone having Potential means something have the skill to do something.
Abundant While Earth is beautiful and abundant, we must face the reality that our actions are harming our planet. Pollution, climate change, and the overuse of natural resources are making Earth less livable. Scientists, and engineers, like Elon Musk are concerned about the future and are exploring the possibility of moving to Mars if Earth becomes too damaged. Abundant meanings having plenty of something.
Generate Moving to Mars is no easy feat. There are many challenges to overcome. For example, the journey to Mars takes several months, and the harsh conditions on the planet pose risks to our health. We would need to find ways to grow food, create sustainable habitats, and generate the resources necessary for survival. Generate means for making new generations, new objects or subjects and more.

Global Inferencing: Making Connections between the Text and the Wider World

Would you want to be one of the first people living on Mars?

Come up with solid reasons for your choice, and provide evidence, and examples to support your reasons.

I wouldn’t want to be on Mars first because if something goes wrong such as the ship collapsing and stranding us in space or when I get to Mars and I lose connections with earth. All of these things can happen if you’re 1st so these are my reasons why being 1st isn’t always best. I would rather stay back in earth until we really have to go to Mars or I could wait for the astronauts that are on Mars to give us some updates on how there going and it might give me the courage to head up to mars and live their. There is a huge risk of going to Mars first, so that’s why I would rather be one of the last people to go to mars. Actually there are better reasons why you would want to go to mars last, such as when more people leave the more Earth will be able to become livable again or even if we go to Mars it will cost loads of money. So these are lots of reasons that being first isn’t always the best thing.

Making Butter

In the 1st week of term 2 we did immersion rotations,Immersion rotations was when classes go with another teacher and do some fun things. This terms theme was Changes matter. It meant that Matter can change into other types of matter so when we went to the other classes we made something which matter could change and our 1st teacher we were going to was Miss Tuia, when we got there we all picked a seat than we sat down, after we sat down Miss Tuia said we were gonna be making butter. She than told us to get a Chromebook and set it up right next to your table and pull up the camera, than she told us to press the record button, after that she told us to grab the jar which was placed in the middle of the table. She told us to open it and pour some heavy cream and close it and start shaking it as hard as you can, after a while the butter was ready and we were given crackers to put the butter on and that was it.It was very yummy and delicious.(Sorry I couldn’t post the video,I think I may of deleted it while cleaning up my storage)

Climate Change Response to Text

Climate Change – Response to Texts

Think carefully about each question, and use evidence from the texts to support your conclusions. Write your answers in full sentences, and use explanations and examples where needed.

  1. What are two of the largest sources of climate change? Explain what they are.

Source One:Greenhouse gases Greenhouse gases are very effective because its the cause of many global panics such as climate change and more,it can also cause good things.
Source Two:Global warming Global warming refers to when global temperatures increase or decrease in a certain time period or even more.

  1. Explain what impact climate change is having on our environment. Include at least 2 examples.

Climate change decreases the amount of clean water.

It also makes it that there are less rainy days but makes the days even more heavier than normal.

  1. What are greenhouse gases?

Greenhouse gases can be good and bad and they are a mixture of many different gases. Also they can be good to not make the temperature too hot or too cold.

  1. How does deforestation contribute to climate change?

Because when the water levels rise we will take down some trees so we can have more space and instead of just leaving lots of open areas they place pine trees(They dont always put pine trees in those certain areas)because they are always straight and don’t take up too much space

  1. Why is it important to reduce our carbon footprint?

(Carbon footprint means, when you make an action and you see how much greenhouse gases are exposed)I think it is important to reduce our carbon footprint because the more greenhouse gas released the more climate change will increase and it will reduce how much clean water we get.

  1. Do you think we, as New Zealanders, are doing a good job of slowing down climate change? Provide at least 2 reasons for your answer.
I don’t think we are slowing down climate change because I actually think we’re increasing it.I think that because the amount of carbon footprint we are doing is bad, also governments are not really trying to change anything, lots of protests have been going on just because of this.
